        - Bye bye Tipp Inn
Well, the Tipperary Inn is closing it's doors yet again. That means we are lookin for a place to meet again. *sigh*
Well, I am lazy and want to keep it closer to downtown or uptown. I know there are quite a few poeple who live up north, so I am nt ruing it out. Whatever we pick I am going to try and make it easier to get to than the Tipp was. I'll let you know. Stay tuned. Join the mailing list, and check back here.

        - March Meeting
Well, I think the meeting went well. We had the usual gnews and a presentation from myself (MadHat) on a new tool. The new meeting location (the Tipperary Inn) seems to be going over well. We had a couple of new members, and a few old timers show up, as well as everyone else. Overall we had about 12 people. The only issue thus far is that they won't split the tab.

Talk of the Pub Crawl coming up went well. Remember that is coming up on March 26. We are working to finalize the TShirts. I should have something on the site soon about it.

Speaking of the site, it has been updated, so check that shit out. The gnews and presentation slides are up.

The next meetign is April 8, 2009 and we will have a presentation from "Jean-Claud AskMe" on asterisk.

        - Next Meeting, Pub Crawl & Facebook
Well, the next meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday the 11th. We will be meeting at the Tipperary Inn again, upstairs. They keep saying they will add us to their calendar, but it has not happened yet.

I announced to the mailing list today that we will be starting monthly Pub Crawls. Our first one will be in Uptown, starting at the Idle Rich. They will be heald the last Thursday of each month. Come and join in the drinking and what should prove to be interesting discussions.

Lastly, I created a DC214 Facebook group. This is really to have an easy way to see when the next meeting is and who is speaking. We will have a speaker this month, so stay tuned.

        - Tonight's Meeting
I had to stay home with the kiddo tonight, but WT took my place at the meeting. If we can't get a sitter we'll end up splitting duty.

The report thus far is that the Tipperary Inn is a good location. I think we will go ahead and meet there next month as well. I will get WT to confirm tonight that those who made it agree, and if so will make the reservation for next month.

We are now looking for presenters for the next few months. WT and I are working on an idea we had, but it won't be ready right away. If you have an idea about any aspect of information security or design manipulation (making something work other than the way it was designed to work. code issues, design flaws, bad configurations, etc...) or anything really interesting let Isac (piis8(at)yahoo(dot)com) and/or myself know.

        - DC214 is in a holding patern.
We are looking for a new location to meet and working on how we want to take the group. MadHat and PiIs8 (Isac) are looking for speakers and suggestions on how to revive this beast. Let us know. In the mean time, join the mailing list or silc channel. Neither is all that busy.

        - November Meeting

Well we met at the Infomart and things went ok. We will try again in December. There were just over 20 people at the meeting. It went ok, witha lot of neew faces. Munin did a presentation on role based access control, and you can see some of his notes on the presentations page. He didn't have any slides, which was different, but several people said he did quite well without them.

        - October Meeting

OK, I suck and am WAY behind. The presentation from Intropy's presentation are now up under presentations. This was the last meeting Intropy will be at for some time, as he moved to Austin. It was a good meeting, but as usual he had more info than time. The presentation was an introduction to reverse engineering. Very interesting and very deep.

        - September Meeting

This was our 2 year anniversary. We had a decent turnout, about 30 people. Our speaker canceled at the last minute and MadHat had to take a 20 minute presentation to a 45 minute and it.... well, it worked. MadHat went over how to use Winalysis as a simple forensics tool on VM ware boxes to determine how applications and malware work, interact with file and the registry.

        - May Meeting

Intropy finally got off his ass and did the second half of his Metasploit presentation. It was well worth the wait. This was a great presentation, if you miussed it, you missed out. But be sure and check out the slides, examples and references. We did meet at the Keg in Irving, and with 30 people we where pushing the limit for space. Still looking for a new home.

  • April ...., 2005
        - April Meeting

Weasel did a talk on Secure Coding practices. The slides are available in PDF format and PPT format. We had about 36 people show up. This looks like our last meeting at Central Market. Next month, back to the Keg, until we find something better.

        - March Meeting

For not having a speaker, and just being a BS session, it went very well. We had about 30 people and discussed many topics. I was very pleased once people actually showed...

  • February 10, 2005
        - February Meeting

As usual Simple Nomad had a great presentation that really drew a crowd. We had 43 people show up last night. The Max we can have at Central Market is 50, so we need to start looking. Nomad had a very challenging presentation on how buffer overflows work and how to code up exploits. As usual the slides will be in the media section along with links to other resources.
